The Lions World Song Festival for the Blind, held in Krakow, Poland, from November 14\u201316, 2024, was a celebration of talent, diversity, and the indomitable human spirit. This unique competition, now in its fifth edition, provided visually impaired artists with a platform to showcase their original musical compositions. Among the talented participants was Ankur Gupta from India, who made history by securing the first runner-up position\u2014the first time an Indian artist has been recognized at this prestigious event.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

About the Festival<\/h6>

The Lions World Song Festival for the Blind, aptly named \u201cSounds from the Heart,\u201d is a global initiative which provides a platform for blind and visually impaired musicians to showcase their musical talent. The festival also fosters inclusivity, promotes the universal language of music and presents an unparalleled opportunity for aspiring artists to kickstart their professional careers on a global stage.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since its inception, the festival has featured 90 artists from 24 countries and 4 continents. Unlike conventional singing competitions, this festival emphasizes originality\u2014participants perform only unpublished songs, often created in collaboration with professional musicians.<\/p>

Organized by Lions Clubs International with the support of partners including the Mayor’s Office of Krakow, Radio Krakow, and Fuchs, the event covers all expenses in Krakow, including transportation, accommodation, and local logistics for participants. This ensures that talented artists from diverse backgrounds can participate without financial constraints, making it a truly inclusive event.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A Collaborative Effort<\/h6>

The journey began in July 2024, when PIP Gu\u00f0r\u00fan Yngvad\u00f3ttir reached out to PID Sangeeta Jatia to identify Lions Clubs in Kerala willing to sponsor Indian participants. Recognizing the importance of the opportunity, PID Sangeeta reached out to PID R. Murugan, knowing his deep commitment to Lions\u2019 causes. When he learnt that the singers were from Delhi, PID Murugan roped in PMCC Vijay Mittal to be part of this initiative.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Trivandrum PRS Pride Lions Club from District 318A (PID Murugan\u2019s home district), along with the Ghaziabad Lions Club of District 321-C1, the home club of PMCC Vinay Mittal, agreed to sponsor the travel expenses for Ankur Gupta and Chetna Nagpal, contributing a combined total of Rs.1.4 lakhs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A Voice Heard Around the World<\/h6>

Ankur Gupta\u2019s performance captivated the audience and judges alike, earning him the first runner-up position in this highly competitive festival. Expressing his gratitude in a heartfelt message, Ankur Gupta said: \u201cThis achievement wouldn\u2019t have been possible without your generous support and sponsorship, which enabled us to travel and represent India on this international stage. Your belief in our mission and talent has been truly inspiring. Thank you for making this journey a reality.
