From a Sunday Clinic to a Centre of Excellence in Eye Care<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On a Sunday morning in 2006, a modest vision centre opened its doors to a handful of patients from nearby villages. There was no large facility. No advanced equipment. Just a simple intention\u2014to help people see better.<\/p>

What followed was something far larger than expected.<\/p>

Patients began arriving steadily, many of them living with untreated cataracts, refractive errors, and conditions that had quietly limited their lives for years. Access to specialised eye care was scarce across the rural belt around Bakhtawarpur, in North Delhi. What began as a weekly service quickly revealed the scale of the need.<\/p>

The response from Delhi Naya Bazar Lions Club, District 321A2, was not to scale back\u2014but to build forward.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In 2010, a turning point arrived. A generous donor contributed 1,100 sq. mtrs. of land at Palla Road, Akbarpur Mazra, Bakhtawarpur. The initiative moved into a more permanent space\u2014still modest, but no longer temporary.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

By 2015, that commitment took shape as Mojiram Lions Eye Hospital. With its inauguration on January 25, followed by the start of OPD services in early February and cataract surgeries by March, the hospital began operating as a full-fledged eye care facility. Supported by qualified ophthalmologists and a modern operation theatre, it quickly became a trusted point of care for surrounding communities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Building Capability, Step by Step\n\n\n<\/h2>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

As needs evolved, so did the hospital.<\/p>

The rising incidence of diabetes-related eye conditions led to the conceptualisation of a dedicated retina facility in 2017. Diagnostic services followed in 2018, and advanced equipment was added in 2024.<\/p>

A key milestone came with an LCIF grant of \u20b958 lakhs\u2014strengthening the hospital\u2019s vitreo-retinal surgical capabilities and enabling a shift towards more specialised care.<\/p>

In 2025, a second modular operation theatre was commissioned enabling vitreo-retinal surgeries at the hospital itself\u2014bringing advanced treatment closer to patients who would otherwise have had to travel further for care.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Today, the hospital offers a comprehensive range of services\u2014cataract surgeries, retina and vitreo-retinal surgeries, cornea, pediatric ophthalmology, and diabetic retinopathy care\u2014alongside a strong outreach program. Eye camps and school screening initiatives help in identifying conditions early and ensuring timely treatment.<\/p>

Within the hospital, services are supported by two advanced operation theatres, a 17-bed NABH-accredited facility, and in-house infrastructure including a pharmacy, laboratory, and optical shop.
