Under a flyover in Vijayawada, a line forms with quiet order. Steel vessels rest on a folding table. Rice, ladle by ladle, meets outstretched plates. There is no announcement, no rush\u2014just a steady rhythm. Serve. Move. Repeat.<\/p>

And this has been happening every single day.<\/p>

Across District 316D, one commitment is clear: no day without food for someone who needs it. What began on July 1, 2025, as a 365-day Annaprasadam initiative, under the guidance of PID Er.Chigurupati Varaprasad and the leadership of District Governor V.V.P.S. Anjaneyulu, has grown into a district-wide effort. On most days, over 100 people are served; on others, the number rises to 200 or 300.<\/p>

What keeps it going is equally simple. Lions do not wait for a designated drive. Birthdays, anniversaries, personal milestones\u2014these become occasions to step in and serve. Over time, it becomes routine. Something that is done, without the need to call attention to it.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Initiated during the tenure of then District Governor Devineni Joni Kumari, the Vijayee Bhava Service Trust serves around 100 people every day, without interruption. The Gudlavalleru Lions Club runs its food program with the same quiet regularity at the Seva Bhavan. In hospitals, patients and their attendants are not left to manage hunger on top of illness \u2014 Annaprasadam fills that gap. Region Chairperson Dr. Yakkati Sudhakar Babu organizes daily Annaprasadam in his hospital, serving over 100 people.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Some efforts stand out for their scale. Every Sunday in Vijayawada, more than 500 devotees visiting the Kanaka Durga temple are served meals at the home of Appana Venkata Satya Sai Baba, Past President of Vijayawada Supreme Lions Club and District Chairperson for Relieving Hunger. What began as a family tradition generations ago continues today with the support of the club. During Dasara, Navaratri and Bhavani Deeksha Viramana\u2014the numbers rise sharply, with lakhs of devotees being served. Alongside this, under the leadership of District Cabinet Secretary Maddineni Chakradhar, milk worth \u20b940 lakhs is distributed to devotees during these peak periods. Past District Governor Lion Dr. Puttagunta Venkata Satish Kumar supports this effort by providing accommodation and helping distribute food to over two lakh devotees visiting Vijayawada each year.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In another part of the city, the need is quieter, but no less urgent. A lecturer notices that a few students are struggling to keep up because they are going without regular meals. Instead of letting it pass, Kasturi V.V. Padmabhushan, President of Vijayawada Lions Club, begins cooking and distributing freshly prepared food to 25 students every day, helping them stay focused in classrooms.<\/p>

The commitment goes beyond cooked meals. Lions Clubs of Kondapalli and Vijayawada VRK Nagar distribute monthly grocery kits to elderly residents, an initiative led by Past District Governors Devineni Kishore Kumar and Devineni Joni Kumari.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Across the district, nearly half the clubs participate regularly in Annaprasadam activities\u2014either daily or on alternate days.<\/p>

But this is not just about numbers.<\/p>

Hunger is rarely dramatic. It does not announce itself. It appears in small, everyday ways\u2014at a roadside, in a hospital corridor, in a classroom.<\/p>

Over 10 lakh people have been served this year.
