On a quiet morning in a small village, an elderly woman sat in her courtyard as her world faded into a blur. She had no money for treatment and no means of travelling to the city. Gradually, she had begun to accept that care was beyond her reach.<\/p>

Then came a knock on her door.<\/p>

Members of Jaora Lions Club, District 3233-G1, had arrived with a simple message: she did not have to face her failing eyesight alone. Service had come to her doorstep.<\/p>

That encounter captures the idea behind Seva Aapke Dwaar\u2014Service at Your Doorstep\u2014an initiative developed under the leadership of Club President Yash Jain during the 2025\u20132026 Lions year. Its premise was straightforward: if patients could not reach care, care must reach them.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The program extended beyond hospital walls into urban slums and remote villages. Through Anganwadi centres, police departments and other community settings, the club served Anganwadi workers, judiciary members, students, auto drivers, marginalised families and others with limited access to basic eye and health care. More than 2,000 Anganwadi workers were screened, alongside thousands of other residents. For patients diagnosed with cataracts and other eye conditions, the club’s involvement did not end with a check-up. Lions arranged transport from patients’ homes to hospital and provided surgery, medicines, meals and post-operative care at no cost. Once treatment was complete, patients were safely escorted home.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This continuity of care was central to the program. A free examination has limited value if a patient lacks the money or means to act on the diagnosis. By addressing transportation, treatment costs, food and follow-up care, the club helped ensure that practical barriers did not prevent patients from receiving the treatment they needed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

During 2025\u20132026, the Lions Eye Hospital & Diagnostic Centre recorded tens of thousands of eye examinations, more than 6,600 eye surgeries and thousands of diabetes and other diagnostic tests. Each figure represented an individual encounter: a patient examined, an illness identified or a person given the opportunity to see clearly again.<\/p>

The club’s work was recognised at Zone, Region, District and Multiple levels. Yet the significance of Seva Aapke Dwaar lies not only in the scale of its activity, but in the structure of its service.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Rather than relying on a single large event, the initiative repeatedly brought screening and support into communities where care was difficult to access. It then connected diagnosis with transportation, treatment and recovery, creating a practical path from the patient’s doorstep to the hospital and safely home again.<\/p>

    For the elderly woman whose courtyard the Lions first visited, that path ended in a cataract surgery arranged near her village, and eyesight restored without a single trip to the city.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
