The Assam Medical College was established in the same year that India got her independence: 1947. Among its hallowed grounds, three architectural treasures reside: the Pathology Museum, OT 1, and the Old OPD block. These structures, steeped in history, had gradually lost their luster over the years, much to the dismay of its alumni including PDG Dr. Shantanu Lahkar. Of special significance was the Pathology Museum, a repository of medical knowledge, set up in 1948.<\/p>

Gathering support from Dibrugarh’s notable citizens and Lions Clubs of Dibrugarh and Dibrugarh Excellence (District 322D), PDG Dr. Shantanu Lahkar decided to restore this edifice to its former glory. Despite encountering initial obstacles and administrative challenges, his determination remained steadfast.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The project gained momentum with Dr. Sanjib Kakoti’s appointment as Principal in December 2021. His enthusiastic backing gave a boost to the restoration efforts. Lions felt encouraged and visited the facility with Dr. Aditi Sharma, Professor and HOD, Pathology Department in the very same month. In January 2022, they invited Mr. Jayanta Sarma, the Secretary of the Heritage Conservation Society, Assam to visit Dibrugarh and give his inputs on the renovation strategy. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The next challenge was financial limitations, which threatened to impede progress. However, the Principal decided to complete the project from the Platinum Jubilee Alumni contributions, propelling the restoration forward. The newly formed Museum Committee worked diligently, their efforts culminating in the Pathology Museum’s grand reopening in July 2024.<\/p>

Underscoring the importance of preserving educational heritage, the renovated museum now serves as a link between past and present, continuing to inspire upcoming generations of medical practitioners.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
