The corridors of Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital in Chennai told a story that District Governor Murugan could not forget. During a lunchtime visit to see a relative last year, he noticed cancer patients and their families searching anxiously for food. Some patients—frail from late-stage illness and dependent on feeding tubes—struggled to access even basic nourishment.
That moment became a turning point. When he became the Governor of District 3241B in July 2025, personal concern was transformed into collective action. Under District Governor Murugan’s leadership, the district launched a program that now serves a nutritious meal to 300 to 350 cancer patients each day at the hospital near Chennai’s Central Railway Station.
The operation runs with both precision and care. Lions prepare the meals in a centralized kitchen, alternating between porridge and full meals to meet varying dietary requirements. Volunteers load the food onto specially designed four-wheeled tray cycles and transport it directly to the hospital, ensuring meals arrive hot, fresh, and hygienic. For over four months, the service has continued without interruption—regardless of weather or circumstance.
Women leaders across District 3241B have been central to sustaining the initiative. Under the coordination of District Chairperson Ganesh Prasad, volunteers maintain the daily rhythm of preparation, delivery, and service with quiet resolve.
At its heart, the program reflects a simple belief: everyone deserves at least one wholesome meal a day, served with dignity. Each meal represents more than food—it affirms the humanity of patients during some of their most vulnerable moments.
District Governor Murugan has expressed his hope that the service will continue uninterrupted throughout this Lions year, and has encouraged incoming district leadership to carry the commitment forward. What started with one moment of concern has become a steady act of service. Day after day, the meals arrive on time—unnoticed by most, but keenly felt by those who depend on them.
