A 64-Year Legacy Enters the AI Age

Palghat Lions School’s Innovation Lab brings AI, robotics and coding into the classroom.

A school established by Palghat Lions Club, District 318D in 1962 is now preparing its students for a technology-driven future.

On July 28, 2026, Palghat Lions School inaugurated its AI & E-STREAM Innovation Lab, giving students hands-on access to artificial intelligence, robotics, coding and other emerging technologies. Dr. A. Seshadri Shekar, Director of IIT Palakkad, formally opened the facility.

The lab brings together Artificial Intelligence, Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in an experiential learning environment.

Inside the Lab

Students will explore:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Robotics and electronics
  • The Internet of Things
  • 3D printing
  • Drone technology
  • Computer vision and biotechnology
  • Engineering design
  • Entrepreneurship

The emphasis will be on learning by doing. Through project-based activities and design thinking, students will identify practical problems, explore possible solutions, develop prototypes and test their ideas. They will also have opportunities to participate in hackathons, research competitions, STEM challenges, innovation fairs and technology exhibitions.

Interaction with researchers, industry professionals and mentors will broaden students’ understanding of how classroom learning can be applied beyond school.

The new facility extends a long-standing commitment to education. Palghat Lions School, a permanent project of Palghat Lions Club, has served generations of children since its inception. In 2024, it received the Lions Council of India’s Golden Jubilee Award as the oldest continuously running Lions permanent project in India.

The lab now adds a forward-looking dimension to that legacy. It gives students the space and resources to experiment, question, collaborate and create—abilities that will matter as much as technical knowledge in the years ahead.

With its new Innovation Lab, Palghat Lions School is helping young learners become creators of technology, rather than simply users of it.
