When 85-year-old Lakshmi heard the first notes of a popular hit, her fingers began tapping rhythmically and a smile lit up her lined face. It was her favourite song —one she hadn’t heard in decades. The Ranga Sangeeta music concert was the highlight of the visit to Sevashrama Orphanage and Old Age Home organized by Mangaladevi Leo Club, District 317D, in February 2025.
The visit began simply—club members arrived with modest refreshments and grand intentions. They came prepared not just to serve but to listen. Their aim was to bring joy to the elderly residents through meaningful interactions and cultural activities.
“We often think service is about what we give,” reflected a Leo. “But today taught us how much we receive when we truly pay attention.”
The Leos engaged in conversations with the elders, listening to their experiences and sharing stories.
As the conversations deepened, the afternoon transitioned naturally to more lively activities. Leos gently encouraged the elderly residents to join them in dancing. Across the room, other members engaged in interactive activities with the children.

During the Ranga Sangeeta music concert, Leos performed soulful and uplifting songs, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and emotional connection. The music brought smiles to everyone’s faces, and many even joined in, clapping and singing along.

The heartwarming visit lasted just hours, but created lasting connections. Through shared stories, spontaneous laughter, and the universal language of music, the Mangaladevi Leo Club discovered that true service happens in these small, profound moments of human recognition—when we see beyond circumstances to the dignity, wisdom, and joy that reside in every person, regardless of age.
