District 322A’s Shakti Circle Initiative: Threads of Change

“Main Shakti hoon, kar sakti hoon…” The anthem of SheShakti 2024, presented by Lions Clubs International in association with News 18, echoes in the work of Ranchi Capital Lions Club, District 322A, through its permanent initiative, Shakti Circle. At this centre in the Baragai Village of Ranchi District, underprivileged women and girls from slum areas are learning the skills they need to shape their futures.

Every day, women gather around sewing machines, their hands turning fabric into eco-friendly cloth bags, purchased widely by Lions and Leo Clubs to support the ‘Say No to Plastic’ campaign. Unlike many vocational programs, where a large part of the earnings go into organizational costs, the profits here go directly to the women.

For many participants, Shakti Circle is the first place where their strength is seen, acknowledged, and amplified. Completing a bag, earning their first wage, or mastering a new technique becomes a quiet triumph—a reminder of their own Shakti and the possibilities it holds.

The centre embodies a wider vision: that service, skill, and sustainability can intersect to produce lasting change. By nurturing women’s talents and connecting their work to environmental awareness, Shakti Circle marries women empowerment with environmental stewardship.

…And this is just the beginning. The Shakti Circle will continue to expand its reach and touch more lives. The ripples of change will spread outward, positively impacting more women, their families, and entire communities, creating a growing circle of empowerment, resilience, and hope.
