Learning begins with sight — the words on a page, the diagram on the board, the encouraging nod from a teacher across the room. When a child’s vision is clear, the world opens up. When it isn’t, even the brightest mind can struggle to keep pace. For more than two decades, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and Johnson & Johnson have been ensuring that this quiet barrier does not stand in the way of learning, through the Sight For Kids (SFK) Program.
This Lions year, District 3232-B2 placed Sight For Kids at the center of its service work. Under the leadership of District Governor Reena Dhupia, Lions coordinated with Rohit Mehta Medical Hub to bring Dr. Bhawana Daga and a team of optometrists and ophthalmologists into government, government-aided, and private schools. Temporary screening stations appeared in school courtyards and assembly halls, where students between the ages of 5 and 16 lined up for examination. The process was quiet, efficient, and thorough.
At the initial eye screening camp held from July 21 to July 25, 2025, more than 3,360 students and staff were examined. On November 12, 2025, screenings continued at Muktajivan English School. At each location, students moved through vision tests with careful attention from medical teams. “The examination was detailed and carried out patiently,” said Hir Patel, a Class 7 student at Alpha International School. “It was a good experience for us.”
In just the first few months, more than 1 lakh children were screened.

The consultations extended beyond the screening itself, ensuring that identifying a problem led to addressing it. Corrective spectacles were provided by partner Vision Spring to the students at no cost. Project Coordinators Rashmi Varia and Renu Agarwal worked closely with school administrators to schedule camps, coordinate medical staff, and track outcomes across dozens of schools.
Principal Survi Kanth of Hiramanek English Medium School in Ahmedabad noted the impact: “We are grateful to the Ahmedabad Siddhivinayak Lions Club and their medical team for their service and the consultations and referrals provided.”
When children can see clearly, they engage more confidently — with their books, their teachers and their ambitions. Through Sight For Kids, District 3232-B2 is ensuring that vision supports learning, not limits it.
