Sparkles of Joy Meet the Leos Who Brought Diwali Home to Hundreds

On October 19, 2025, Shahid Vijay Salaskar Udyan in Mumbai filled with a different kind of Diwali light. From early morning to late afternoon, the Leos of District 3231-A2 welcomed more than 500 families for Umang 2025, a day designed to offer support, dignity, and a sense of celebration to nearly 1,800 people.

The scale of work was large, but the intent was simple — to meet needs that matter. Families received 500 ration kits, each with a month’s supply of essentials. Children walked away with new school bags and stationery. Women and girls were provided 12,000 sanitary napkins, ensuring a basic need often overlooked.

Twenty wheelchairs were distributed to individuals with limited mobility, and every attendee was served a fresh, hearty meal.

Alongside the distributions, Umang created space for learning and care. Medical camps for vision, dental, diabetes, and general health screenings offered early detection and guidance. Sessions on self-defense and menstrual hygiene helped build awareness and confidence. A drinking water cooler installed by the Leos now stands as a permanent addition to the community — a quiet but lasting benefit. What made Umang truly special was the hands-on involvement of the Leos – from packing ration kits and school supplies to organizing meal stations and assisting families throughout the event.

With 180 members contributing over 1620 Leo hours, the energy was as contagious as the smiles it created. Umang 2025 was built through many hands and shared intent. The project cost of ₹10 lakhs was met through a blend of support — ₹4.26 lakhs from LCIF, with the balance raised by Lions, Leos, individuals, and charitable trusts.

For the Leos of District 3231-A2, Umang 2025 was not only a festive initiative but a reminder of what collective effort can create: a Diwali where light is felt as much as it is seen.
