‘Swapnabhavanam’: Building Homes and Hope

In the villages of Kerala, 15 families who once had no permanent shelter now have a roof over their heads, thanks to Lions District 318C’s ‘Swapnabhavanam’ initiative.

Led by District Governor Rajan N. Namboothiri, this housing project aims to construct 150 houses for families in need, at a total cost of Rs.12 crores. The project has gained momentum through a partnership with the K Chittilappilly Foundation (KCF) founded by renowned industrialist, humanitarian and visionary Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly. The Foundation is well-known for its philanthropic work in the region.

“These aren’t just houses – they represent stability and dignity for families who have struggled for years,” explains District Governor Namboothiri. “When we hand over keys to a family, we see firsthand what secure housing means for their health, education, and overall wellbeing.”

The name “Swapnabhavanam” means “dream home” in Malayalam, reflecting what these houses represent to recipient families. Each completed home meets quality standards that ensure durability and comfort.

Lions Clubs throughout District 318C have mobilized to identify deserving families, secure land, and coordinate construction. Their systematic approach has allowed the project to maintain steady progress despite challenges.

With 15 homes completed and many more in various stages of construction, the district continues working toward its goal of 150 houses. Local Lions Clubs monitor each project and provide ongoing support to recipient families.

As District Governor Namboothiri observes, “The joy on a family’s face when they receive their home keys tells us why this work matters. We’re not just changing their present circumstances – we’re changing their future.”
