In the quiet hills of Wayanad, the scars of the landslide that struck Chooralmala and Mundakkai in July 2024 are still visible. For many families, that day altered the course of their lives. Homes were lost, livelihoods swept away, and access to even basic healthcare became a struggle. From that landscape of loss has emerged a place of care and renewal — the Lions Wayanad Hospital, inaugurated by International President A.P. Singh, on September 13, 2025.
Conceived by MD 318, the hospital is a collective act of compassion. Built with an LCIF grant of US$500,000 and contributions from Lions across Kerala, it stands not as a monument to tragedy but as a practical response to need — a place where healing can begin.
Spread across three floors and 16,000 square feet, the facility – in its initial phase – will house a Dialysis Centre, a Speech and Hearing Unit established in collaboration with the Dr. S. R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing, Bengaluru, and a Mental Health Program developed with the Malabar Health Trust. Each initiative reflects a thoughtful understanding of the region’s needs — physical, emotional, and economic. Plans are underway to introduce a wide range of additional facilities in the near future.
At the inauguration, Mr. T. Siddique, MLA, launched health card services for patients. The Speech and Hearing Centre was inaugurated by PID Sangeeta Jatia by accepting the MoU from PID V.V. Krishna Reddy, and the Mental Health Action Trust Program was launched by PID Vijay Kumar Raju. The Lions Manappuram Dialysis Centre was dedicated by PID V.P. Nandakumar, Chairman of the Manappuram Foundation, who also pledged US$100,000 to the cause.
Behind the institution stands a team of committed Lions leaders –
- Hospital Grant Administrator PID R. Murugan;

Lions Wayanad Hospital reflects what service truly means — not words or ceremonies, but continuity of care. It marks a turning point in Wayanad’s story— where empathy found its form in brick and mortar, and service took the shape of healing.
