Gummudipoondi Lions Club builds its 47th home for the Irular community.
A vibrant rangoli spread across the front yard, fresh flowers on the doorway, and a garland draped around the traditional brass lamp at the entrance… all combined to create a festive, celebratory tone befitting the occasion. For one Irular tribal family, this was no ordinary day. It marked the moment they stepped into a permanent home gifted by the Gummudipoondi Lions Club, District 3241A.
The house, the 47th such donated by Lion J. Clement, reflects more than brick and mortar. It represents the culmination of steady, purposeful service that began in 2010, when Lion J. Clement, deeply moved by the plight of the Irular community, resolved to provide secure housing for families who had long lived in fragile, makeshift shelters. Since then, he and his club have worked steadily to identify the most vulnerable households and help them transition into homes that bring both dignity and stability.

On August 12, 2025, the home was handed over to the deserving family in the presence of District Governor P. Manisekar MJF, alongside Lion leaders and members of the club.

For the Irular community, these residences mean more than protection from the elements. They are a foundation on which families can build a better future — a place of belonging where children can dream beyond survival.
The Gummudipoondi Lions Club’s quiet consistency in this work stands out as a model of what determined service can achieve. Through every new door that opens, they are not only providing shelter, but also strengthening the fabric of community life.
